Meet the Speakers!
Angela Mund, DNP, CRNA
Dr. Angela Mund received a certificate in Nurse Anesthesia from the Minneapolis Veteran’s Affairs School of Nurse Anesthesia in 1998. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Master of Science degree in 1999 and a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in 2008.
She has been very active in nurse anesthesiology for over 20 years including serving as President of the Association of Veteran’s Affairs Nurse Anesthetists and the President of the South Carolina Association of Nurse Anesthetists as well as on several AANA Committees.
Currently, she is the Chair for the Department of Clinical Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina, leading a team of faculty and staff from the physician assistant, nurse anesthesia, cardiovascular perfusion, healthcare studies, and genetic counseling programs.
Dr. Mund is the AANA FY23 President.
Dr. Haithm Abdelsalam
Dr. Haithm Abdelsalam is a staff pediatric Anesthesiologist at Northern Light Anesthesia in Bangor, Maine. Dr. Abdelsalam completed his Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin after finishing his Anesthesiology Residency at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, MA. He obtained his MD degree at the University of Benghazi school of Medicine in Benghazi, Libya. Some of his presentations include: “Anesthetic consideration for patient with Valvular Heart Disease”, “Anesthetic management of pregnant patient with Sickle Cell Disease”, “Post-operative nausea and vomiting, review the prevention and management strategies”, “Pediatric Emergence Delirium”, “Assessing the value of regional cerebral/somatic oximetry in our practice”, and “ERAS pathway for Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis.” In 2018, Dr. Abdelsalam was awarded the Capstone of the Year Award. He is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, American Medical Association and the Society of Pediatric Anesthesia.
Dr. Bernard Gilligan
Dr. Bernard Gilligan is the Simulation and Clinical Coordinator at the Geisinger/Bloomsburg University Nurse Anesthesia Program. He was formerly a Program Director and Assistant Director for Nurse Anesthesia Programs in Eastern Pennsylvania.
Dr. Gilligan has been a healthcare provider for 30 years and an educator over 20 years. He became a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist in 2005 and has maintained clinical practice at the Geisinger Health System in Pennsylvania for over 16 years. In 2009, Dr. Gilligan completed a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree with an emphasis in Simulation for Crisis Resource Management from Chatham University School of Nursing. He is a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. His areas of interest include human factors and performance, patient safety, and medical simulation. Dr. Gilligan’s hobbies include flying, photography, and spending time outdoors.
